Wildlife around Lockhart

While the girls were visiting we got out as much as we could to do some wildlife spotting.

Giant snail in the rainforest.

A large taipan that had been run over on the road.

White fungi found on our night spotting.

We named this toad hollow, because every time we came past
there were about 50 cane toads, dead and alive, many trying to
mate.
Rare spotted ducks on the sewage ponds.

Our first green python of the night.

Chilli Beach outing

The girls fooling around, and yes the rain did come!

The thong tree at Chilli.

Outings in January

When I was out in Brisbane Ron and Chris decided Charlotte needed some excitement so they did a day trip to Old Site- this is the beginning of the wet season!

In January we meet a birder from NSW and shared some good outings with him. Here is is with a huge female toad that had about 5 males clamering on her, this one had the best grip.

A beautiful fawn breasted bowerbirds bower.
Notice all the green things it collects.

When the girls came to Lockhart in Jan/Feb it was out herring with Kahleana again

Trips to the waterfalls to cool down.

And days out at the beach, here on Chilli Beach with an approaching rain.

Lockhart River 2012

Well its been a few months since the last post, so I have a few photos and stories to catch up with.
After school finished we had a week in Lockhart with Charlotte. Bryan our next door neighbour kindly invited us out boating and fishing with him. We got to explore Lockhart River, Claudie River and to have a very rough trip back across the bay, getting very wet!
Charlotte with her first fish.

Motoring back down the Claudie to get away from an electrical storm quickly approaching.

Two old fisher women!
